Please ASSUME NOTHING. As a scientist, minor celebrity, and unconventional stylist at the same time, this is the strong word I have to say to everybody, even to my family and close friends.

I know people like to be entertained by hearing about “so Katy has a boyfriend?” that kind of thing, and you think you know her? NO. It’s totally her business if she wants to have a boyfriend and it’s totally not fair to expose that to the general public of she chooses not to. And it might not even be true!

And I know people are tempted to make conclusion based on what they see, but this is pretty inaccurate given the fact that we can see only a small window of the spectrum. Yes, we as scientists assume things, but we never publish or publicize our assumptions before the assumption is proven to be true — or to have certain (significant) values.

—and us scientists still entertain people.

So I don’t want to hear anybody saying that I am gay, that I have schizophrenia, that I spend too much time on fashion (or Facebook?) instead of research, and the like. YOU KNOW WHAT KILLS THE CAT.
